How to Awaken Kundalini through yoga?
We should start with hatha yoga for cleansing and strengthening the body. The power of kundalini is very immense and it can’t be held by ordinary humans. Hatha yoga involves certain physical and mental disciplines that are explained in another blogpost. Once stability of body is obtained through hatha yoga, we turn our mind inwards towards the chakras.
What are chakras in Kundalini Yoga?
Chakras are energy centers located along the spinal cord and brain. These energy centers are formed by nadis which carry energies. The kundalini energy lies dormant in the engergy center located in lowest part of spine called the muladhara. Our objective is to rise the Kundalini from muladhara to sahasrara through swathistana, manipuraka, anahata, visuthi, and agjna.
How to Awaken Kundalini?
To awaken kundalini you must direct your energies to muladhara chakra and clear blockages in other chakras. According to enlightened people who follow the path of Kundalini yoga, the kundalini lies in the muladhara chakra like a coiled serpent. Our goal is to activate the energy and bring it to the sahasrara chakra.
Sit in padmasana or any other pose that you’re comfortable with. Breath in slowly and mindfully. Hold the breath as much as you can and visualize the rising of kundalini in the muladhara chakra. Move the energy through each chakra consciously and take it to the sahasrara chakra. Now breath out slowly. Repeat the process as long as you can. Practice daily three times: early morning, mid noon and evening.
Take it slow
Awakening kundalini will take years. So don’t expect anything to happen in few days. Don’t overdo your practice.
